Yes you can change the colour of each of them individually. Yes, it also applies to custom cut sections. They do not have contacts at the cutting points. You do not need them to. You do not need to scrap the surface to access the contact in the PCB. It is very easy to just solder the cables directly to the led pads. This is the pinout: http://www.seeedstudio.com/document/pdf/WS2812B%20Datasheet.pdf Each LED is a WS2812B, so just solder Vcc, Vss and DataIn to the first led in the first strip, and if you want to connect a second strip, connect the DataOut of the last led of the first strip to the dataIn of the second strip, and so on and so forth... I have 7 strips in my drone connected this way. It is a stronger connection in case of crash. If you want to protect them further, consider using transparent heat shrink after having it soldered.
