They really are IR leds, nothing is visible to the eye. They work pretty well in complete darkness though I did not test outdoor range so far. Even with two heatsinks on the back of the PCB, the two LED modules get hot to the point I can barely leave a finger on them. Using larger hotsink is probably a good idea. The large copper surface + vias on the bare PCB is probably not enough to for the life expectancy of the IR leds. Overall well build and very efficient. Would buy again but add some bigger heatsinks. My main concern is how long the IR leds will be able to sustain their own heat.
