Ron No, 5V is not enough, it needs 12 volts D.C. or more, up to 24. It is very loud with 8 AA batteries.

Ron Remove the paper from the base plate, and place it under the PCB (the soldered pins will fit through the square holes). Attach each of the 4 brass posts with a long screw. Remove the backing from the heat sink and place on the chip between the 2 large capacitors. Place a 1cm tall metal or plastic spacer (not provided) in the heat sink. Place the top (with logo printed) over the spacer and 4 brass posts and screw the 4 short screws in. The spacer will keep the heat sink from moving. To operate, attach speakers, or a headset, or both, and power up. THEN, plug in a working signal into AUX IN. This works great for me; the blue LED will flash slowly. I have not used other input methods. The sound is great.

Ron Yes, earphones work well, and passive speakers do too. BUT, plugging in earphones does not stop the sound at the speakers. You can use one, or the other, or both. Whatever is plugged in produces a great clean sound.

Ron It does not come with a power supply (adapter). It comes with a Free DC adapter (a plug that takes two wires from an adapter that outputs 8 to 24 volts DC) in case your wall wart's plug is not the correct size or polarity. ( tip). A 9-volt battery holder should work well too but I have not actually used it yet. I have used a 15VDC adapter and that works well, it also worked well with 8 AA batteries.

Jack57 The anet A8 motherboard has a 3 pin connector that correspond to the 3 wires of the proximity detector. Go to YouTube for detailed info on how to do it and do not forget to change the firmware also.
