Q: novice question: the kopilot is powered by the motor esc via the throttle plug?

Beeeg Yes, that is correct, I power all 3 of mine that way. I also have a lost model beeper between the ESC and Kopilot on all 3 models.

Beeeg I bought the MG996R version a while ago as a set of 4 and they were all metal gears. Be mindful though that the MG995 looks to have plastic gears based on other users reviews, so in short buy the MG996R version if you want all metal gears. looking at the price of these ($8) I fear the sticker is the only difference and even the MG996R would be supplied with plastic gears when bought from this thread.
