Q: what is the difference between ccw and cw?

Donald The terms CW and CCW can refer to either the direction of the motor and props or the thread direction of the shaft or prop adapter. A BL motor can be set to turn the prop in either direction by swapping any 2 of the 3 motor wires. A prop spinning CW (seen from a top view) should have a CCW screw thread pattern holding the prop on the shaft. Many use a lock-nut with a CW screw thread pattern, but it is not ideal since it still may loosen over time. A nut holding a prop on the shaft ideally should tighten as the prop spins in the opposite direction. So a CW prop should use a CCW thread nut and a CCW prop should use a CW thread nut to hold it on the shaft. Some makers will produce motors with both CW and CCW thread shafts. Both CW and CCW motors are used with quads but many such as myself, also use COUNTER ROTATING props on multi-motor aircraft. I recommend you not buy from a manufacturer that does not offer both CW and CCW nut threads on their BL motors.
