This little quad is great. I'm impressed with the quality of the quad itself, the goggles, and the radio. I think this would make a great first quad. It runs betaflight, and I had no problem connecting it to my computer to tune and to use the radio as a sim controller. It took me a while to figure this out too but the VTx board can can be adjusted so that it transmits to 200mW, so range shouldn't be an issue. Read the manual on GEPRC's website when you get it, There was a bunch of stuff there I didn't know! A note though, if you've never flown quads before (as was the case with me) please do yourself a favor and get some time in on a simulator before trying to fly FPV.
